Fall 2019 Newsletter

Published: Aug 2019

The Fall newsletter introduces an exciting new collaboration: the Intermountain West Joint Venture (IWJV) “Water 4 Initiative,” recognizing the Middle Rio Grande as a key focus area for conserving wet meadows, irrigation water, wildlife habitat, and landscape resiliency. We highlight RGALT’s ongoing work to protect flood-irrigated agricultural land, which serves as critical habitat for migratory birds and supports groundwater recharge and ecological health. This issue also features stories of landowners — such as a longtime North Valley farmer working with Bernalillo County — who are preserving their farmland under conservation easements to keep land affordable and farming alive for future generations. Finally, we invite supporters to the 2019 Fall Harvest Fundraiser — a barn dance and farm celebration that doubles as the public launch of the Water 4 Initiative, combining community, agriculture, and conservation in a festive gathering.
